The poverty that keeps Lydiah from going to school
Lydiah is growing up in an environment where everyday life is full of uncertainty. Her family lives in deep poverty in the Gambela region of Ethiopia. Her father cannot work because of health problems, and her mother earns a little extra as a vendor — but her modest income is not enough even to cover basic needs.
They live in a small house with a thatched roof, far from their extended family, because they moved to the region from another part of the country. There is no one for them to lean on.
And yet Lydiah has a dream.
She dreams of a better future
Despite the difficult conditions, Lydiah is diligent, focused and loves learning. At school she is one of the most active pupils — she always tries to do her best and approaches her teachers and classmates with respect.
Her teachers describe her as an exceptionally responsible and motivated student.
She wants to finish school and one day help her family. She knows that education is her only chance to break the cycle of poverty.
A little help, a big change
But for Lydiah it is not a given that she will be able to keep studying. Without support her family cannot afford school supplies, a uniform or the fees that come with education.
This is where you can help.
Thanks to your support, Lydiah can stay in school and get closer to the future she dreams of.
