2023 KHARTOUM: AID FOR SUDAN

On Saturday 15 April 2023, heavy fighting broke out in Sudan between the army and the powerful paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), and it has continued without interruption despite the declared ceasefire.

Sadly, the fighting is intensifying, with the heaviest clashes taking place in the capital, Khartoum. More than 300 civilians have already lost their lives and thousands have fled their homes.

In Sudan’s capital Khartoum the Salesians of Don Bosco run St Joseph’s Technical Secondary School, which was hit during the bombings. Three bombs landed and exploded 200 metres from the school; the powerful blasts destroyed part of the roof and the windows of several offices, but fortunately there were no injuries.

Please pray for peace and calm in this war-stricken country.

The aim of the project was — through modern machinery, the upskilling of teachers and the modernization of teaching — to make the auto-mechanic trade more attractive and to raise the expertise of graduates of the trade at the St. Joseph’s VTC apprenticeship centre in Khartoum. Modernizing the trade will help produce qualified graduates capable of entering the workforce with knowledge that matches the current technical equipment of vehicles. The project St. Joseph’s Vocational Training Centre – Auto-Mechanic Workshop was supported with EUR 147,633.
